Maddox Sutton Kearney

After months of anticipation, and a few minutes of begging, our doctor decided to induce Jennifer. So, on Sunday at 7 p.m. we set off to the hospital for the last time as non-parents. The first stage was an overnight dose of medicine. They gave Jennifer something to help her sleep and we went to bed with dreams of Maddox dancing in our heads. At 1 a.m. we were woken up by a team of nurses scrambling around frantically. Maddox's heart rate had dropped, so the put Jennifer on oxygen, gave her something to stop the contractions and took her off the first medication. His heart rate went back up immediately but we were unable to go back to sleep. At around 7 a.m. Monday morning, Jennifer was given medicine to speed up her contractions. Things started progressing slowly. Around noon, the doctor broke Jennifer's water. It was like the tide at Omaha Beach. At 2, the anesthesiologist gave Jennifer her epidural. The pain wasn't going away, so they upped her dosage. The pain still wasn't going away, so they decided they must have missed the first time. Once they re-did the epidural, the pain went away immediately and Jennifer was comfortable and happy. Throughout the day, we had many visitors to keep us company. At about 10 p.m., the doctor decided that Jennifer wasn't making progress anymore and decided to do a C-section. The doctors cut and pulled and dug and dodged bodily fluids and eventually, a little Maddox emerged.

Maddox was officially born at 10:48 p.m. on October 20th. He was 8 pounds, 5.7 ounces and 20 inches long.

Maddox did fine with everything and was very calm until he found out that half of his family is from Missouri and then he THREW A FIT
!

After I convinced him that not all Missourians are awful (just the living ones), he calmed down and they got him footprinted

then taken to meet Mom

and hang with Dad.

From there, he was taken to the nursery where he got a bath,

got weighed,

measured,

then I trimmed his umbilical cord and put a diaper on him.

I'm getting tired of blogging, so I'm just going to put some more pictures up and you can deal with it...
